Did the U.S. orchestrate the Color Revolutions!?

Since the end of the Cold War, protests that overthrew governments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia have been labeled the Color Revolutions because many of these movements adopted a color or a flower as their symbol. These government changes generally moved away from Russia and more in a Western direction, as well as shifted the countries toward democracy, although the long-term democratic results were poor. The short-list of countries said to have had color revolutions are: Georgia (2003–2004), Ukraine (2005), and Kyrgyzstan (2005). Serbia (2000) is often also included. A longer list of associated protests include: Romania (1996), Serbia (1996–1997), Bulgaria (1997), and Slovakia (1998). The 2014 Ukrainian Maidan revolution is generally not considered a color revolution, but has many similarities. Various protests and regime-changes in the Middle East and Asia are also sometimes described as color revolutions. For this piece, I’m primarily thinking about Georgia (2003–2004), Ukraine (2005), Kyrgyzstan (2005), Serbia (2000), and Ukraine (2014).

Many claim, especially China and Russia, that these revolutions were caused, created, and/or directed by the United States. Such claims don’t treat these movements as people protesting and overthrowing corrupt and authoritarian leaders, but as coups fabricated by the United States.
