Why I’m skeptical of reparations. Part 1: Dropping large bowel movements on blacks for hundreds of years.
Was slavery, Jim Crow, and segregation really that bad? Did American society really repeatedly screw the descendants of slaves like some say? The answer is yes, and it begs the question…should the United States pay some sort of reparation in a formal apology for slavery and discrimination? The answer to that is complicated.
Below, I cover the dark history of American society’s poor treatment of blacks. Then I describe a reparations program I’d be sympathetic towards before explaining why I’m skeptical of reparations in general, and flat out against anything but a relatively small reparations payout.
SHITTING ON BLACK PEOPLE
Sometimes when you look deeper into bad things, they aren’t as bad as they appeared from further away. That is not the case with historical black discrimination. United States society — government and people — repeatedly shit on blacks for hundreds of years. It’s sad, embarrassing, and shameful. Let me briefly cover this somber history in case there are some major moments you have forgotten.
The slave trade involved shipping people in horrible conditions across the Atlantic. People were stacked on top of each other living in their own shit. Many died on the journey.
